Why Elephant exists

For most of history, a "family office" meant a literal building staffed with attorneys, accountants, and investment managers — available only to families with $100M+ in assets. Everyone else had to stitch together a patchwork of one-off services: an estate attorney for the will, a CPA for the taxes, a registered agent for the LLC, a financial advisor for the portfolio, and a safe-deposit box for "the file."

Elephant exists to change that. We believe the operating model of the modern family office — consolidated, audited, multi-generational, software-driven — should be available to every family with something to protect.

We build with three principles. First, trust through transparency — resource guides cite primary sources (statutes, IRS publications) and Tembo is educational, not counsel. Second, plain English over legalese — if a 7th-grader can't follow the wizard, we redesign it. Third, built to outlast — your documents and data live on long after we exit the building each night, with versioning, audit trails, and break-glass access for the people who need them.

Tembo, Elephant's AI assistant

Meet Tembo

Tembo — Swahili for elephant — is Elephant's AI assistant and the face of how we help families stay organized. Tembo remembers your household, explains concepts calmly, and never pretends to be your attorney. Memory stays in your household's vault of facts, under your control.

We call members collectively the Herd — Matriarchs and Patriarchs who lead, Askaris who bring the family in, and the professionals in our Partner Network. Our monthly digest is The Memory; our AI assistant is Tembo.

We're always looking for engineers, designers, attorneys, and customer success folks who want to spend the next decade on this. Come build with us.
